REFLEXOLOGY BENEFITS

In a study, The American Medical Association (AMA) linked the negative effects of stress in as many as 90 percent of doctor visits. It is sobering to think that the stress of driving rush-hour traffic can send you to the doctor.

But there is hope, experts in reflexology worldwide list stress reduction as one of the main benefits of having a professional reflexology session.

Experts in the field of reflexology link stress to an accumulation of stored tension in the body and its systems. Inevitably that tension affects the muscles, spine, organs, glands and just about every part of the body. Eventually that tension holds the capacity to negatively impact our health with disease. Reflexology helps to interrupt that pattern of tension and return our bodies to a state of relaxation that alternative or holistic health experts like to homeostasis. Just think of it as your happy place or in the words of Yogi Jerilee Lucas, Indianapolis, your five minute vacation spot.

Getting to that place of profound relaxation is more important than just a quaint little notion of being able to think yourself stress-free. Our bodies are hardwired to heal themselves, a virus invades our body and body systems are as focused as the Department of Defense in making sure the intruder surrenders. That is how our species survived during prehistoric dinosaur and saber tooth tiger invasions and during The Plague.  Reflexology is a way to take ourselves to that ?happy place? of homeostasis without having to master yoga or meditation?and it feels great too.

These are some of the ways reflexology helps with your health:

  • Stress Reduction
  • Relaxation
  • Pain Management
  • Health Enhancement
  • Improved Body Function.

The American Academy of Reflexology links thousands of documented benefits relating to reflexology. Here are some:

  • Stress reduction, profound relaxation, for all parts of the body
  • Improved circulation, resulting in better oxygen and nutrient supply to all cells of the body
  • Pain reduction/elimination such as in the neck, shoulders and lower back
  • Detoxification leading to improved organ and gland function
  • Prevention of disease by reducing accumulated stress in the body before health challenges develop and
  • Safe, nurturing touch.

Natural health writer, Christopher Shirley, in an article on reflexology in Natural Life Magazine attributed these benefits to reflexology:

??from around the world, scientific research has shown that reflexology is an effective therapy for a diverse range of health conditions: PMS., kidney stones, constipation, childbirth, arthritis, internal pain, tension headaches and the pain suffered by persons with terminal cancer, and diabetes mellitus type II.

?Reflexology therapeutically reduces stress and tension throughout the whole body. Consequently, blood and lymph circulation improves, nerve supply to the cells is improved, and the release of toxins from the body is increased. These physiological b benefits facilitate improvement in the body?s assimilation of nutrients, elimination of wastes, and the functioning of it's immune system. In general, reflexology facilitates optimum functioning of all the systems of the body. It is in these ways that reflexology supports the body in its process of healing itself and maintaining optimum health.
