   The IUPUI Community Learning Network Continuing Studies Program recognizes professional reflexology certification standards upheld by the American Reflexology Certification Board (ARCB) as the model by which professional reflexologists and reflexology certification programs for professionals are judged.

   This reflexology training program offers comprehensive scholastic information designed to prepare reflexologists who wish to seek national reflexology certification. ARCB certification enables reflexologists to practice in most states. Those completing this program are able to qualify for positions as trained and knowledgeable certified reflexology professionals.


The IUPUI Reflexology Certification Program is 200-plus hour program and includes these national certification instructional standards recognized by the ARCB:

  • 25 hours of reflexology theory, history, zones, meridians, ear, hand and feet chart competency, mastery of American standard of reflexology techniques;
  • 40 hours body systems specifically relating to reflexology including study of the structure of the lower leg,foot; hands on palpation of landmarks with sensory identification; familiarity and hands-on manipulation of reflex maps; affect of stimulation of reflexes;
  • 30 hours anatomy, physiology and pathology of body systems relating to reflexology;
  • 15 hours business practice, ethics, professional standards, practical marketing concepts to help you promote yourself and your practice and intensive business ethics so students grasp professional limits of the reflexology profession to protect both practitioner and client, CDC universal precautions, reflexology research statistics, injury prevention strategies;
  • 10 hours of supervised practicum or clinical work where you get hands on experience in a spa-like or holistic health setting;
  • 90 hours documenting client sessions painstakingly evaluated for adherence to ARCB protocol and standards.

Class Location and Times

 Meets off-campus, accelerated 6-weekend classroom format designed to prep those who aspire to the highest professional U.S. standards recognized by the American Reflexology Certification Board (ARCB.) Offers comprehensive scholastic and technical skills, marketing, ethics and business organization for building a successful practice and industry-specific anatomy, physiology, pathology of the body as reflected on the feet, hands and ears.  Instructors work in small groups to ensure students have support necessary for skill mastery. Required courses for certification include: Introduction to Professional Reflexology; Intermediate Professional Reflexology; Advanced Professional Reflexology; Documentation Standards and Practical Application; and Professional Reflexology Skills Assessment. You may enroll in individual courses without enrolling in the certificate program. Or work at your own pace to achieve certification by completing all five of the required classes For information, call 317-403-5051.   

 
Introduction to Professional Reflexology    Theory, history, industry standards, benefits, contraindications, documentation protocols and instructor supervised practice in orientation, holding, sequencing and relaxation methods and American standards for zone, thumb and finger walking techniques. Learn the difference therapeutic reflexology can make for a variety of health conditions routinely encountered in a typical practice. Great stand-alone class for those wishing to learn basic professional reflexology . Required for certification.

Location: Indiana Therapeutic Massage School, 7780 N. Michigan Rd., Indpls.
Instructor: Thomacine Haywood, N.C.R. and staff.
Fee: $670 plus $35 manual and chart. Students should bring two hand towels and writing materials to each session.
 
Intermediate Professional Reflexology

    Basic anatomy, physiology, pathology of body systems and how these are reflected on the feet; anatomy and physiology of the lower leg; anatomical references for industry specific documentation protocols; advanced sequencing methods and manipulation techniques plus condition-specific sequencing protocols. Learn auricular reflexology techniques. Required for certification. Intro to Professional Reflexology is a pre-requisite.

Instructor: Thomacine Haywood, N.C.R. and staff.
Fee: $500 plus $10 chart. Students should bring two hand towels and writing materials to each session.  

Advanced Professional Reflexology
  
   Covers simple, but effective marketing and business organization methods, ethics and professional standards to give students the competitive edge. Industry-specific business plan. Advanced sequencing protocols for foot reflexology and orientation, technique and  methodology for working the hand. Spa techniques like hot stone or mud pack applications to expand revenue opportunities. Required for certification. Intermediate and Intro classes are prerequisites.

Fee: $500 plus $10 chart. Students should bring two hand towels and writing materials to each session. 

Documentation Standards and Practical Application    
   Implementing and assessing national industry documentation standards established by the ARCB through documentation of 90 individual sessions using specific protocols and anatomical references. Students will learn the value of documentation standards in the successful reflexology practice.  Sessions completed throughout previous three courses are included in totals for assessment. Instructor will offer advisement one-on-one and through group. Required for certification. Intro, Intermediate and Advanced classes are prerequisites.

Professional Reflexology Skills Assessment

   Students expected to satisfactorily complete a written and hands-on skills assessment of reflexology theory, history, contraindications, benefits, techniques; marketing, ethics and business organization; and anatomy and physiology of body systems and anatomy reflected on the feet; recognizing typical pathology of the foot and lower leg. Assessment scheduled with instructor. Required for certification. Intro, Intermediate, Advanced, Documentation classes are prerequisites.

   Students responsible for ABMP student membership fee. Credit card, cash, check accepted by Continuing Studies. Eligible veterans may contact the VA coordinator at 274-5045.
